DADDY SHOT A BEAR. AKA and see "Jaybird," "The Pennsylvania Fifers." Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, southwestern Pa. E Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. A version of the tune known as "Jaybird" in America, child of the older tune known in the British Isles as "The (Bonny) Breast Knot(s)" or "The Lady's Breast Knot."

Source for notated version: Clyde Lloyd, a middle-aged fiddler from Indiana County, Pa., whom Bayard recorded in 1952 [Bayard].
