Back to Disbanded Officer (The)
DISBANDED OFFICER, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (whole time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in Samuel, Ann & Peter Thompson's Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 5 (London, 1788). The Disbanded Officer, or The Baroness of Bruschsal (1786) was a comedy adapted by James Johnstone from Gotthold Ephraim Lessing's original. It was performed at the Theatre Royal in the Hay-Market.
