DOCTOR O'CONNOR. Irish, Planxty (6/8 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). Donal O'Sullivan, in his definitive 1958 work on O'Carolan, admitted it was not possible for him to identify the subject of this air, but did note there was a period reference in verse (which does not scan to the tune) congratulating an O'Connor on his obtaining a diploma to practice medicine.
