DROCHAID LUIDEACH, AN (The Twisted Bridge). Scottish, Reel. A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Although in 12/8 (or 6/4) time the tune is considered a reel, of a type found in the Hebrides. The bridge itself (whose Gaelic name can be translated several ways, inlcuding "The Old Bridge," "The Big Bridge," "The Famous Bridge," "Crooked Bridge," "The Silly Bridge" etc.) is located on the island of Benbecula in the Western Isles, on the east side of the island, and refers to the building of a causeway between the island of Grimsay Benbecula, and Benbecula itself.
