Back to Grand Mamou (2)
GRAN(D) MAMOU [2]. Cajun, Waltz. C Major (Greenblatt): G Major (Francois). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA (Greenblatt): ABB(Vocal)BA(Vocal)BAA (Francois). Mamou is a small town north of Eunice, Louisiana, whose name derives descriptivly from the large ('mammoth') prairie nearby. Raymond Francois (1990) thinks this version is more like the original, or at least played more often than Varise Connor's version. As with version #2 see also related songs: Varise Connor's "Grand Mamou," Austin Pitre's "Grand Mamou," Leo Soileau's "La Bonne Valse," Link Davis' "Big Mamou" and Mayuse LaFleur's "Grand Basile" (the original).
