GURTEEN CROSS. AKA and see "Church Street Polka (1)," "Flanagan's Polka," "Oyster River Reel," "St. Mary's." Irish, Polka. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Co. Sligo polka was recorded by Paddy Killoran under this title, paired with "Memories of Ballymote" (the town Killoran hailed from in Ireland). The "Church Street" title for this tune comes from the name of a medley in which this tune was played on the Chieftains first album. The improbable "Gurkin Cross" was the title on Ben Lennon's "Natural Bridge" album, obviously a miss-hearing of "Gurteen Cross."
