HAMBURGH DANCE, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). E Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was originally published in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773), and subsequently in Bride's Favourite Collection of 200 Select Country Dances, Cotillons (London, 1776). The title reflects the influence of the Hanovarian Monarchy and its ties with Germany.
