MRS. MAULE OF PAUMURE'S FAVORITE. Scottish, Slow Jig. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831). Gow, a son of Niel Gow, was a fiddler, composer, bandleader and music publisher. Mrs. Maule was Patricia Heron (d. 1821), daughter of Gilbert Gordon of Halleaths, who married Ramsay Maule, MP for Forfar, in 1794 (see “Mr. Maule’s Frolick” for more on the rather scandalous gentleman). She bore him three sons and seven daughters.
