COAL FIDDLE, THE. English, (Schottische?). England, Northumberland. G Major. Standard tuning. AABB. Composed by musician, teacher, composer, dancing master and fiddler Robert Whinham (1814-1893), originally from Morpeth. A note in the manuscript indicates: "made at Hareshawhead." Graham Dixon finds that Hareshawhead was a farm on which coal was discovered, and that a drift mine was opened up in the 19th century.
Source for notated version: J. "Keilder Jock" Davidson 20th century manuscript, at the Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum [Dixon].
