BLACKBERRY WALTZ. Old-Time, Waltz. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Nonnie Presson, who, with her brother Bulow Smith, comprised the Perry County Music Makers. Presson played the a fretless zither (with five chords that she had custom-made), wrote songs, and sang, and the duo recorded a few sides before World War II. Source Fred Stoneking learned the tune from his father, Lee Stoneking, who lived in the northern Ozarks in Missouri. A companion piece played by the Stonekings (sharing much melodic material) is the "Blackberry Onestep."
