FEVER IN THE SOUTH. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Missouri. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. It is on Missouri fiddler Charlie Walden's list of '100 essential Missouri fiddle tunes'. "Fever in the South" is Vee Latty's (1910-1956) reworking of "Sally Ann (1)." Walden called Latty "one of the Ancients", meaning a fiddler who taught the fiddlers that Walden himself learned from, and Walden himself had this tune from a home recording of Vee obtained from Latty's son, Wayne. Latty performed on WOS radio in the 1920's.
