LEINSTER BUTTERMILK. Irish, Reel. B Minor ('A' part) & D Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune is often paired with "Lad O'Beirne's Favorite", particularly among New York regional fiddlers. There are New York connections with both tunes: Bronx fiddler Martin Wynne is the source of "Leinster Buttermilk," while Lad O'Beirne was one of the most prominent of the city's fiddlers in the mid-20th century. See also the related "Leitrim Thrush." Leinster was one of the five old provinces, once rival kingdoms, of Ireland, named after an ancient tribe of people called the Laigin.
