NATHANIEL GOW'S COMPLIMENTS TO HIS BROTHER. Scottish, Strathspey. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by biography:Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831) in honor of his younger brother, John Gow (1764-1826), the youngest child of fiddler-composer Niel Gow (1727-1807). John and brother Andrew Gow (1760-1803) headed the London branch of the family music publishing business in 1788, and were the representatives for the Gow publications in that city. John continued the business after Andrew's death, eventually bringing his own son into the business, at which time he published (in the 1820's) as "John Gow & Son, 162 Regent Street, London." John himself was the composer of a few tunes that appear in the later Gow collections, and perhaps Nathaniel's title is a nod to his brother's composing ability, as well as an advertisement in itself.
