NEW LANGOLEE [2]. AKA and see "Lango Lee (1)," "Lango Lee New Way," "Patrick Sarsfield." English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The title is given in London publishers Longman, Lukey & Broderip's Bride's Favourite Collection of 200 Select Country Dances, Cotillons (1776, part 3, p. 90), and in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection..., vol. 4 (1780), as "Patrick Sarsfield, or The New Lango Lee." The Thompsons published the 'other' "New Langolee (1)" in their 1780 collection as well, adding to the confusion of the names between the two tunes (both have been called 'new' or 'old') when they are referenced in that collection.

The (sometimes irreliable) Grattan Flood (Notes and Queries, March 28, 1908, p. 257) maintains that this was an air known as "Humors of Ballymagairy (The)," "and Goldsmith wrote a song the air, which he introduced into She Stoops to Conquer ("Ah me! when shall I marry me?"), in 1773, subsequently arranged by Beethoven.
