GLADSTONE'S BIll [2]. AKA and see "Annamaculeen Reel." Irish, Reel. E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. This version of "Gladstone's Bill" is from the Larry Smyth manuscript, and has a different second strain from that of "Gladstone's Bill (1)," from the Stephen Grier manuscript (County Leitrim, 1883). However, in a meticulous bit of tune-sleuthing, Fr. John Quinn (Gortletteragh Co. Leitrim) has discovered that Smyth's second strain also appears in the Grier manuscript, attached to a different, untitled tune (No. 131 in the Grier ms., for which see "Reel (15)" in this index. Thus "Gladstone's Bill (2)" is a 'composite tune', with the first strain from Grier's "Gladstone's Bill (1)" and the second from Grier's No. 131 (Reel (15)). Furthermore, finds Fr. Quinn, Brendan Breathnach's "Ríl Eanach Mhic Coilín/Annamaculeen Reel", collected from the playing of fluter W. Higgins/Liam Ó hUiginn (Mohill, County Letrim, 1966), is the same tune as "Gladstone's Bill (2)" albeit with the parts reversed.
