O SHE'S COMICAL. AKA and see "O but Ye be Merry," "O'Shea's Comical Reel, "Rejected Suitor (The)." Scottish, Reel. A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Gow, Skye): ABB' (Athole, Kerr). A double-tonic reel, "Very old" (Gow, Skye). Older versions go under the title "O but Ye be Merry." W.B. Laybourn, editor of Köhler's Violin Repository, Book One (1881) printed the miss-heard title "O'Shea's Comical Reel." A four-part version of the tune can be found as "Rejected Suitor (The)" (Fear nan Casan Caola, aka "Pige Ruadh (Am)"), which can be found in instrumental and puirt-a-beul settings on Cape Breton.
