PIBROCH!, THE. AKA and see “Mrs. Thompson of Gofton's Strathspey,” “Whinham’s Reel.” The tune originally was composed by Northumbrian fiddler-composer Robert Whinham as “Whinham’s Reel,” however, it appears as "The Pibroch!" in Jack “Kielder Jock” Davidson’s early 20th century manuscript in the Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum (Northumberland) [as researched by Whinham biographer Graham Dixon]. Davidson, also known as "Whistling Jock" was a regionally well-known fiddler from the Kielder, Northumberland, area.
