HIGHLAND WATCH, THE (NOW THE 42nd REGT. OR ROYAL HIGHLANDERS). Scottish, Strathspey. E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The 42nd Royal Highland Regiment is better-known as the famous Black Watch, first raised in 1739 under John, the Earl of Crawford. O'Farrell directs: "Very Slow." As "42nd Highland Regiment" the strathspey was printed in William Bradbury Ryan's Ryan's Mammoth Collection (Boston, 1883).
