EMPIRE HORNPIPE [1]. AKA and see "Almack's Hornpipe." English(?), Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune is a member of a large family of widespread hornpipes that includes "Almack's Hornpipe" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883), "English Clog Hornpipe" from Glasgow publisher James S. Kerr from about the same time, "Friendly Visit (1) (The)" in Francis O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1903), "Whittle Dene" in Northumbrian repertory, and other titles.
