FITZGERALD'S HORNPIPE [1] (Cornphíopa Mhic Ghearailt). Irish, Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune straddles tonality between A dorian and G major, but resolves to 'G'. 19th century County Cork cleric and uilleann piper James Goodman collected a version of the melody--see "Fitzgerald's Hornpipe (2)." See also the related "Humors of Tuamgraney."

Source for notated version: fiddler Mrs. Murphy, 1967 (Co. Cork, Ireland) [Breathnach].

Printed sources: Breathnach (CRÉ II), 1976; No. 305, p. 156.

Recorded sources: Copely Records 9-113 (78 RPM), Paddy Cronin (195?).
