MACLACHLAN'S REEL. Scottish, Strathspey. C Major (Glen): D Major (Aird). Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest appearance of the tune in print in Angus Cumming's 1780 A Collection of Strathspeys or Old Highland Reels (p. 16). Glen notes distinct similarities with Henry Playford's "Cronstoune", printed in 1700. See also Daniel Wright's cognate "Jenny's Whim (3)."
