Composed by Aberdeenshire fiddler-composer biography:Alexander Walker (b. 1819) for his patron and employer Sir Charles Forbes (1803–1877), 3rd Baronet of Newe. Sir Charles was a graduate of Harrow and was formerly a captain in the 17th Lancers. He married Caroline, daughter of George Battye of Campden Hill on 21 August 1830. She died in 1877.
Alexander Walker was the gardener at Castle Newe, western Aberdeenshire, and leader of the Castle Newe Band.
