GREEN FIELDS OF EIRE, THE. AKA and see "Morning Star (1)." Irish, Reel (2/4 time). Ireland, County Donegal. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. The tune begins in E minor, then resolves to G major for the end of the first strain and stays in 'G' for the second strain. It is closely related to "Morning Star (1)" and "Belles of Omagh," and is perhaps distantly related to "Green Fields of Erin (2)/Limerick Lasses (1).

Source for notated version: "I got this tune from Domhnall mac Lachlainn, "An Tailliur Mor"(the Big Tailor) of Druim-lurga in Cill-mac-nEnain. It was whistledto him about forty years ago by Seumas o Domhnaill, an old fiddler ofCluain-cille in Tearmann (who could not play it on the fiddle); andAn Tailliur Mor whistled and played it to me. This tune is not well known in Cill-mac-nEnain" [Padraig Mac Aodh O'Neill].

Printed sources: Padraig Mac Aodh O'Neill (Songs of Uladh), 1904; p. 19.
