QUIVER, THE. AKA – “Cupid’s Prophecy.” English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was first published in the London periodicals of John Hinton (Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure, 1759) and R. Baldwin (London Magazine, or Gentleman’s Monthly Intelligencer, 1763) under the title “Cupid’s Prophecy,” with the alternate title “The Quiver.” The titles were reversed by the Thompsons.
