BELFAST CHICKEN. Irish, Reel. D Mixolydian/Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. Although the title probably does not reference them, there were a few bare-knuckle boxers who went by the name 'The Belfast Chicken', among them John H. "Professor" Clark, Johnny Marr (Deadwood, S.D., 1876), and Bill Clark. The latter, an Australian, was in hundreds of bare-knuckle matches, and was still hurling challenges about in America at the age of 82. "Just another fight, please," the old pugilist begged, "before the greatest referee of 'em all counts me out."
