RAMBLER'S HORNPIPE. AKA and see “Little Old Man,” "Old French." Canadian, American; Hornpipe or Reel. USA, northern N.Y. Canada, Ontario. D Major ('A' part) & A Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The alternate title “Little Old Man” was given by Carmelle Bégin, from the playing of Ontario fiddler Dawson Girdwood. The tune has been popular at American contra-dances as “Old French.” "Rambler's Hornpipe" was recorded on a 1990 home tape by fiddler biography:Erskine Morris (1913-1997), originally from Douglastown, an anglo-francophone community on the tip of the Gaspé peninsula.
