ROLLING OFF A LOG [1]. AKA and see "Set canadien de Québec 1ère partie," “Up the River.” American, Jig (6/8 time). C Major ('A' part) & G Major ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was picked up (presumably from Cole’s 1000) by the Beaton family of Mabou, and popularized among Cape Breton fiddlers. French-Canadian fiddler biography:A.J. Boulay (1883-1948) recorded the tune as the first figure in his "Set canadien de Québec 1ère partie", recorded (with dance figures called in English) in Montreal in December 1928, while violinist/fiddler Percy Scott recorded it in Montreal in 1920 as the first tune in his "Jig Medley."
