JEMMY/JEMMIE THE GOM. Irish, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Jemmy the Gom" means 'foolish James', with 'gom' derived from the Irish gámaí meaning a “booby, dolt”. The jig "Jemmy the Gom" can be found in Book 2 of the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork uilleann piper and Church of Ireland cleric wikipedia:James_Goodman_(musicologist) (1828-1896). It was also entered into the music manuscript collection of farmer and fiddler Philip Carolan (c. 1839-1910) of Crossmolina, Co. Mayo, in an entry dated July 30th, 1868.
