CARNOUCIE'S RANT. AKA and see "Drunken Wives in Pearson's Close (The)." Scottish, Reel (cut time). E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. Edinburgh fiddler and writing master David Young included the tune in his MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1741, No. 118, p. 182); two strains with two variations. The second strain of "Cornoucie's Rant" is nearly identical to the first strain of Young's "Drunken Wives in Pearson's Close (The)", which he entered in his Bodleian Manuscript (c. 1740). The index also gives the alternate title of "Boga 'n Lochan" for the reel, but "Carnoucie's" is very different than the later "Bòg an Lochan."
