Sheet Music for "Carnoucie's Rant"Carnoucie's RantBook: David Young – “A Collection of Scotch Airs with the latest Variations” (AKA - TheMcFarlane Manuscript (c. 1741, No. 118, p. 182)Notes: Two strains and two variations. The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland

CARNOUCIE'S RANT. AKA and see "Drunken Wives in Pearson's Close (The)." Scottish, Reel (cut time). E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. Edinburgh fiddler and writing master David Young included the tune in his MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1741, No. 118, p. 182); two strains with two variations. The second strain of "Cornoucie's Rant" is nearly identical to the first strain of Young's "Drunken Wives in Pearson's Close (The)", which he entered in his Bodleian Manuscript (c. 1740). The index also gives the alternate title of "Boga 'n Lochan" for the reel, but "Carnoucie's" is very different than the later "Bòg an Lochan." The name 'Carnoucie' of the title may perhaps be a variant of 'wikipedia:Carnoustie', the name of a late-18th century town in Angus, Scotland, though the both the name and the occupied land were much older than the town.
