GILLE DONN, AN (Brown-Haired Lad, The). Scottish, Lament (4/4 time). D Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The melody was collected by musicologist Margaret Shaw in the early 1930's on the outer Hebrides island of South Uist. The song tells of the loss of a lover who was drowned when ship was lost in the Sound of Canna. '
