IRISH CHAMPION, THE (An Gaisgeac Eirinneac). AKA and see "Muldoon the Solid Man." Irish, Air (6/8 time, "with spirit"). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. O'Neill's alternate title references a song by New York playwright, actor, director and singer Edward Harrigan, who penned a number of famous songs for his stage productions, primarily about the Irish immigrant experience. The title may also reference Irish-American wrestler William Muldoon [1] (1852-1933), known as "The Solid Man", in association with the song.
