JAMES BAILEY IN BOMBAY. English, Dance Tune (2/4 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB.

Source for notated version: The music manuscript collection of ship's fiddler William Litten, dated 1800-1802. Unfortunately, very little is known about Litten, save that he sailed with the British East India Fleet on a voyage to the Orient in 1800. On the return voyage he sailed in the H.M.S. Gorgon, which he mentions in his ms. as stopping at St. Helena on June 3rd, 1802. Somehow Litten's manuscript came into the possession of a seaman, Allen Coffin, who brought it with him to his home on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, when he returned from his own voyages in the early 1800's.

Printed sources: Huntington (William Litten's), 1977; p. 11.
