Borobridge Hornpipe
BOROBRIDGE HORNPIPE. English, Hornpipe. England, Yorkshire. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A Shropshire variant, recognizable, though with distinct differences, goes under the name of "Wellington Hornpipe" and is also to be found in a Victorian MS collection. Boroughbridge, in North Yorkshire, is a mile west of Aldborough and superceded the older village when the Normans built a bridge over the Ure at the site in the 12th century. It was at Broroughbridge that Edward II's forces defeated Thomas of Lancaster in 1322.
