American, March (2/4 time). USA, southwestern Pa. A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Bayard (1981) identifies his Pennsylvania collected versions as belonging to a large and extremely diverse tune family prominent in the British Isles and the U.S.; this he terms the "Welcome Home" family. British Isles versions are numerous according to him, and include "The Oysterwives Rant," "The Haughs of Cromdale," "The Hillside [2]," "Welcome Home [3]," "(Fare Thee Well) Sweet Killaloe," "Wate You How the Play Began." In southwestern Pa. it was collected mostly from fife sources and was known by them as a "stop beat" piece.
