PORTO BELLO. AKA and see “Moudiewort (The),” “Mowdiewart (The).” English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). Printed by Walsh in his Caledonian Country Dances (book 3, c. 1740), the title references the battle for Portobello, West Indies, taken from the Spanish by the English fleet commanded by Admiral Vernon in November, 1739. See also the similarly-titled “Portabella.”
