WE ARE GAYLY YET. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody was printed by London publisher Charles and Samuel Thompson in their 24 Country Dances for the Year 1769, and again in their third country dance compilation volume (London, 1773). Dance directions were published in The ladies' own memorandum-book; or, daily pocket journal, for the year 1769. The tune may be the air to a Scots ballad entitled "And we are gayly yet," sung on the London stage by John Beard.
