LADY GLASGOW. Scottish, Strathspey. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by the Hugh Montgomerie (1739-1819), 12th Earl of Eglinton, a cellist and amateur composer. Montgomerie was also Member of Parliament for Ayrshire, and the moving force behind the Glasgow, Paisley and Ardrossan Canal, a project to bring large ships to the port of Glasgow, which had declined due to the silting of the River Clyde.
