LADY DUFF OF DELGATY. Scottish, Reel. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). Moyra Cowie (The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999) identifies Lady Duff as Anne (1788-1859), Countess of Fife, the daughter of whiskey magnate James Stein of Kilbagie. She married in 1816 Sir Alexander Duff of Delgatie (1777-1851) and moved into Delgatie Castle, Turriff. Their son James was created Baron Skene, whose son Alexander, 1st Duke of Fife, married Princess Louise, eldest daughter of King Edward VII. See also note for "Barnyard of Delgaty (The)."
