John Glen (1891) finds the tune first in print in Robert Bremner's 1757 collection. See Irish variants in the "Game of Love (The)" tune family. See also the similarly-titled (but melodically different) "Jakie Stewart's Reel", a version of "Highland Man that Kissed His Grannie (1)," published in London by the Thompsons.
