MRS. RICHARDSON PITFOUR'S REEL. Scottish, Reel (cut time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Perthshire fiddler-composer biography:Duncan McKercher, the "Dunkeld Paganini" who composed numerous melodies for the interrelated Perthshire Highland landed families. The title refers to the spouse of Sir John Stewart Richardson (1797), son of James Richardson (d. 1823), Esq., of Pitfour, Perthshire. In 1826 he married Mary (1807-1886), the daughter of James Hay, Esq., of Colliepriest, County Devonk, the "Mrs. Richardson Pitfour" of McKercher's title. Sir John's sister Jemima married Archibald Butter of Faskally, another family for whom McKercher composed tunes (see "Mrs. Butter of Faskally Reel" and "Mrs. Butter of Faskally Strathspey").
