MARAT'S VAGERY. English, Country Dance Tune or Reel (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Judging by the date, the title refers to Swiss-born Jean-Paul Marat [1] (1743-1793), a French physician, political scientist and scientist who became radicalized in the French revolution. He became one of its leading journalists and politicians, and was known for his uncompromising critiques. Marat was assassinated by a Frenchwoman, Charlotte Corday, while in his bath (as famously painted by David).
