BRIDE OF KILDARE. AKA and see "Duke of Gordon's Rant (The)," "Lord Gordon's Reel," "Pride of Kildare (3)." Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC. The tune is a version of McGlashan's "Duke of Gordon's Rant (The)" (c. 1787), more famously "Lord Gordon's Reel." Brendan Breathnach had "Pride of Kildare (3)" as an alternate title for "Lord Gordon's Reel," obtained from the c. 1950 music manuscript of Alex Sutherland (1873-1967) a fiddle player from Drumreilly, Co Leitrim. It appears to researcher Conor Ward that Sutherland changed the Ryan's Mammoth (1883) title from the Kildare "Bride" to "Pride," although Breathnach states the "Pride of Kildare" title is also one that Sutherland's contemporary, Sliabh Luachra fiddler Padraig O'Keefe used for the tune.
