Source for notated version: Joe Politte (1900-1983), Old Mines area, Washington County, east-central Missouri) [Milliner & Koken]. The region is a French cultural area about 60 miles south and a bit west of St. Louis.

Joe Politte

The town of Old Mines, Missouri, was founded in 1723 by French settlers who had come from New France down the Mississippi to work the lead mines in the area. The Politte family traces its roots to these early settlers, and were said to have been one of the last families in the region to learn English.
