"Mrs. Grant of Viewfield's Reel" was published by Elgin fiddler-composer biography:Donald Grant in his Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs &c. (1820-21), where it is marked "Old." At the time of Grant's publication Viewfied was the home ofJames Augustus Grant (1777-18), Convener of the County of Nairn.Grant had a distinguished career with the East India Company and returned home to Nairn in 1820. He bought Viewfield in 1812, married in 1813 and served for many years as Provost and Commissioner of Supply. He was named Convener of Nairn County in 1847. Today'sNairn Museum is housed in his former home, Viewfield.
