CARNOUCIE'S RANT. AKA and see "Drunken Wives in Pearson's Close (The)." Scottish, Reel (cut time). E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. Edinburgh fiddler and writing master David Young included the tune twice in his manuscript collections. As "Drunken Wives in Pearson's Close (The)" it can be found in his Bodleian Manuscript (c. 1740), and in the MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1741, No. 118, p. 182) he entered it as "Cornoucie's Rant." Young's index also gives the alternate title of "Boga 'n Lochan" for the reel, but "Carnoucie's/Drunken" is very different than the later "Bòg an Lochan."
