HARD ROAD TO TRAVEL [2]. Irish, Reel. E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. New Jersey flute player Mike Rafferty (b. 1927, originally from Ballinakil, east County Galway), learned the tune from his father, Barrel Rafferty. Lesl Harker (2005) says "this...is the old way of playing 'In the Tap Room'." "In the Tap Room" belongs to a large family of tunes (see also "Youngest Daughter (1) (The)," "Lady's Top Dress (The)," "Lord Edward," "Miss Fargherson's New Reel," "Mountain Lark (7) (The)," "Polly's Reel," "Ranting Widow (The)," among others).
