LADY JANE NEVILLE. AKA - "Lady Jane Nevill's Reel." Scottish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Athole, Marshall, Skye): AABB' (Kerr). Composed by William Marshall (1748-1833). According to Moyra Cowie (The Life and Times of William Marshall, 1999), Lady Jane Neville was the daughter of Lady Louisa Gordon and Charles, Marquis Cornwallis; thus she was the grand-daughter of Alexander, the 4th Duke of Gordon, who employed Marshall as Steward of the Household. She married the Honorable Richard Griffin Neville in 1819 and became the Marchioness Cornwallis of Culford, Suffolk. Her mother-in-law reputedly had a great sense of humor and Cowie says she was a particular favorite of composer William Marshall's.
