PIPING PIE MAN, THE. AKA and see “Black Mary Hornpipe (1),” “Butcher's Hornpipe (2)," “Wright's Whim.” English, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune was first printed in London publisher John Young's Third Volume of the Dancing Master [1], 2nd edition (p. 15), in 1726 as "The Piping Pye-Man." A slightly altered version was entered as “Piping Pyman Hornpipe” in the 1779 music manuscript collection of James Biggins, Leeds, West Yorkshire.
