I play old-time 5 string banjo and English concertina. I have been playing 5 string banjo for about 43 years and English concertina for about 35 years. I learned to play 5 string banjo from Pete Seeger's book - How To Play the 5 String Banjo and listening to records. I learned to play English concertina mostly using Alistair Anderson's "Concertina Workshop" record and book. I read music (a little) when learning songs on the English concertina and don't read music for playing the 5 string banjo. I have also repaired both English and Anglo concertina's in the past and still have many parts. The songs I play on 5 string banjo are primarily songs from the Appalachia area of the US. I do play some songs from the British Isles as well. The songs I play on English concertina are primarily from the British Isles.
